The past few months, all indications were that Xbox 360 (the next
generation Xbox, Xbox2 to most people) would be getting standard DVD-9.
dual layered DVD. but several reports now say that Microsoft is looking at
both blue-laser formats, HD-DVD and Blu-Ray. it seems that they're leaning
toward HD-DVD, as they were in the past, before
things seemed to go in the direction of having just standard DVD.

(so Xbox2 might be back to where it started, having HD-DVD)

" Details on the next-generation Xbox were scant from Edward Bland, global
marketing general manager of Microsoft's home and entertainment division for
Xbox, explaining that its major introduction will be held at the E3 show in
Los Angeles the week of May 16. But he did note that "no decision has been
made as yet for a blue-laser format" for Xbox. Bland noted that "either
Blu-ray or HD DVD would be acceptable""

uh, and what about the supposed on-again, off-again merging of the two
next-gen formats ? It seems to change everyday!

who knows, maybe Xbox 360 (and Playstation3) will end up with both HD-DVD
and Blu-Ray, one way or another.

or maybe we'll see an all out format war, with a Playstation3-backed Blu-ray
vs an Xbox360-backed HD-DVD
